209km cycling route starting from Llandrindod. Controls at Llanidloes and Kington, plus 4 information controls.

A challenging hilly 200km event designed to test not only the rider’s ability to handle varying terrain, but also to test their ability to plan a ride. Short stretches of traffic-free poor surface cycle route.

Leaving Llandrindod, passing through Newbridge-on-Wye, the route soon takes lanes to and through the Elan Valley then descending to Cwmystwyth. Leaving the Ystwyth valley on the hilly and degraded road surface of NCR 818 and then crossing to the uppermost reaches of the Wye Valley at Llangurig and onto Llanidloes. Following more National Cycle route to Newtown, and onto the pretty village of Bernew. Then Climbing over to the Teme Valley and a long descent to and through Knighton, Preistiegne, Kington and finally more lanes back to arrivee at Llandrindod. A rewarding ride for those willing to make the effort.

Reconnaissance notes

One degraded road surface section, and one fine gravel section, steep climbs and descents, sections with little access to the railway network for self-extraction. This is an adventurous hilly route.

Think again about entering this event if you normally use the full time allowance to ride a 200km, if you are unhappy about unmanned controls or riding on degraded tarmac and gravel surfaces.

Can be ridden on 28c tyres. Below 28c not advised, but that’s your call.
