110km cycling route starting from Llandrindod. Controls at Llanidloes, plus 2 information controls.

A prettty ride to & through the Elan Valley, stoping at Llanidloes in one of the cafes, a final climb over Bwlch-y-Sarnu is waiting, before returning to Llandrindod via more quiet lanes.

The ride departs Llandrindod making its way promptly to the Elan Valley. Ascending the valley alongside the reservoirs, then dropping down to Cwmystwyth. Then climbing up and over Bwlchyclodiau through Llangurig and onto Llanidloes. Suitably refreshed at one of the controls, the ride then heads for home rolling towards and over Bwlch-y-Sarnau, Abbeycwmhir, Nantmel and finally back to arrivee at Llandrindod.

This is a challenging and hilly 110km route  with short stretches of traffic-free poor surface cycle route.

Reconnaissance notes

One degraded road surface section, and two gravel sections, steep climbs and descents, sections with little access to the railway network for self-extraction. This is an adventurous hilly route.

Think again about entering this event if you you have never ridden 100km before, if you are unhappy about unmanned controls or unsure about riding on degraded tarmac and gravel surfaces.

Can be ridden on 28c tyres with care. Below 28c not advised, but that’s your call.
